Anti Aging Advice for baby boomers...
and just about everyone else

I’m often asked for anti aging advice by baby boomers; perhaps because they do realize more acutely than teenagers and thirty-something what aging is all about.

Most people I know aren’t doing anything to slow down the aging process. They eat more then they should, do little or no exercise, and tend to sleep less than what is required for their body to rejuvenate. So before suggesting that they should take anti aging natural supplements, I start with the basics, which can be summed up in an acronym: NES, which stands for Nutrition, Exercise and Sleep.

1) The first piece of anti aging advice I give them is with regard to nutrition. There's no way somebody can stay young while eating the average Westerner's diet, which is composed of too little vegetable portions, too much red meat, fat and carbon hydrates. While it may seems hard to cut from those habits, the best way I've found is to ADD healthy foods first (fresh fruits and vegetables), instead of trying to REDUCE at all cost the unhealthy foods. The reduction will be a result of the addition; if you eat a bowl of raw red pepper and cabbage with hummous (chick peas puree), you WILL be filled up. Same thing if you drink a smoothie made from frozen wildberries, yogurt and eggs. In the beginning, you should not try to eat less; you should aim at eating differently, while eating as much as you want. Cut down on chips and red meat; fill your belly up with asparagus, apples, roasted chicken, and even pop corn if you want (try to replace butter with a mix of olive oil and butter).

Later on, I suggest they reduce the total amount of daily calories intake. This is because calorie restriction is a proven anti aging advice. In a laboratory experiment, scientists have prolonged mice lifespan by as much as 40%, just by making sure the mice would get less calories than what they would get if they were allowed to eat as much as they wanted. Think about it: applied to humans, a 40% increase in lifespan would boost the AVERAGE lifespan from 75 to 105 years old! The method has to be refined, though, as it is quite a challenge to get all the nutrients your body needs while being on a calorie restriction diet.

2) The second piece of anti aging advice I give my baby boomers fellow is to seriously consider exercising EACH AND EVERY DAY. It is way preferable to exercise 30 minutes every day, than to go on a hiking day-trip once a week. Also, it is important to include stretching and muscular exercise, as cardiovascular efforts are not enough. Big muscles like thighs, chest and back muscles, must be exercised in order for our body to secrete natural growth hormone.

3) The third piece of anti aging advice I give people is to get more sleep, and a better quality of sleep. Watching stressing movies up until the time we go to bed isn’t a very good way of ensuring a calm, deep sleep. What’s interesting is that getting your daily exercise done will enhance your quality of sleep. If you’re anxious, then I would suggest you ditch your artificial sleep aid and try valerian caps, or better yet, prepare your own. Valerian has no side effects, and it is recognized as one of the best natural medicines for anxious individuals.

One last piece of anti aging advice: get rid of things that are a source of stress. Stress is one of the worst life extension opponents. Granted, exercising each day is the best way of coping with stress, although you might want to try relaxation techniques, as exercising alone may not be enough to relax completely, depending on your level of stress.
