Anti Aging Apple Cider Vinegar

Anti Aging Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an old folk remedy that has been touted as a cure for everything from warts to cancer. Many of the health claims made for apple cider vinegar are not backed up by medical research, but the few that do show documented promise are associated with slowing the aging process and preventing or treating common chronic diseases of age.

Anti aging apple cider vinegar is usually taken two tablespoons at a time in a glass of water or juice, either first thing in the morning or just before bed. Recent scientific studies suggest that taking apple cider vinegar this way may be associated the following benefits:

  • Apple cider vinegar lowers blood glucose levels. A study done in 2007 revealed that people who took two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water before bedtime showed glucose levels in the morning that were lowered by 2% to 4%. Apple cider vinegar has chromium in it, which can alter insulin levels, so if you are diabetic, don’t take it without talking to your physician first.
  • Apple cider vinegar aids in weight loss and weight maintenance. Studies on this effect show that apple cider vinegar works by increasing feelings of fullness at mealtime. Using it in salad dressing is a good way to get the weight loss/ weight maintenance benefit deliciously.
  • Apple cider vinegar may lower blood pressure naturally. Studies on rats consistently show decreased blood pressure. While no studies have been done on humans yet, a daily serving at mealtime won’t hurt and may help.
  • Apple cider vinegar reduces cholesterol. High cholesterol is a common effect of aging and it is often correlated with heart disease. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily can keep cholesterol levels closer to normal.
  • Apple cider vinegar may prevent some types of cancer. One exception to this rule is bladder cancer, which seems to be made worse by taking apple cider vinegar, perhaps because of the strong astringent properties. Never treat cancer yourself with apple cider vinegar—that is of course unwise. However taking it daily as a preventative may be a good idea.

Apple cider vinegar also contains Vitamin C, minerals, salts, and microscopic organisms that may help maintain healthy intestinal function. Apple cider vinegar is very strong, even corrosive, so cutting it with something sweet or a good deal of water is recommended.

Make sure you buy apple cider vinegar, not plan white vinegar. You can find it in the supermarket or in the supplement section of heath food stores. If you don’t like taking it as a drink (it’s an acquired taste for sure), you can put it on salad by mixing two parts oil to one part vinegar, and then adding sugar or honey to taste.

Over very long periods of time, taking lots of apple cider vinegar can reduce bone density so take it easy, especially if osteoporosis runs in your family.

A little goes a long way!
